So You Like to Dance: The US Dance Festival Calendar for 2027

If your ideal vacation includes a dance floor, a great DJ and very little sleep, 2027 is shaping up to be an excellent year to travel!

The US dance festival calendar covers two very different worlds:

• Latin and swing congresses, built around workshops, performances and social dancing
• Electronic music festivals, where the lineup, production and huge stages take center stage

Both are fantastic. They simply require different strategies.

I love helping clients figure out which experience fits them best, then handling the details around it. Because a dance trip is not just about buying a ticket. It is about choosing the right hotel, getting close to the venue, planning recovery time and making sure the trip feels exciting instead of exhausting.

Here is the 2027 calendar, organized by date.

Planning note: Festival schedules, lineups and hotel blocks can change. I recommend confirming final details with each event before booking nonrefundable travel.

January 2027: Start the year on the dance floor

Miami Beach Lindy Xchange

January 15–17 | South Beach, Miami

Swing dancers can begin the year with a long weekend in South Beach at the Miami Beach Lindy Xchange.

This is a full-weekend swing dance festival with the added bonus of being in Miami Beach during January. That means warm weather, ocean views and a much better chance of enjoying outdoor time between classes and socials.

My hotel advice? Stay in South Beach rather than treating this like a traditional Miami trip. You will want easy access to the dance events, restaurants and late-night activities. A room with a comfortable bed and a good blackout curtain is not a luxury here. It is part of the itinerary!

New York SBKZ Congress

January 29–February 1 | New York City

The New York SBKZ Congress brings together salsa, bachata, kizomba and zouk dancers for workshops, performances and social dancing.

The event highlights international artists, daytime workshops and social dancing that can continue until 6 a.m. Yes, 6 a.m.!

The congress is connected with the New York Hilton Midtown, which is exactly the kind of setup I look for when planning a dance-focused trip. When you are dancing until sunrise, being able to get back to your room quickly matters. Very quickly.

February 2027: Latin dance takes over

Chicago International Salsa Congress

February 4–7 | Chicago

Just a few days after New York, the Chicago International Salsa Congress brings four days of Latin music, classes, performances and social dancing to the Midwest.

Chicago is a particularly good choice for travelers who want a city break around their dance weekend. You can add excellent restaurants, museums and cocktail bars before or after the congress.

I would still prioritize hotel location. Dancing all day and night is a marathon, not a sprint. A hotel that looks inexpensive online can become less appealing if it requires multiple rides across the city every day.

Salsa Rueda Festival

February 11–14 | San Francisco

The Salsa Rueda Festival in San Francisco follows immediately after Chicago.

Rueda is social, energetic and highly interactive, making this a wonderful option for travelers who enjoy learning patterns with a group rather than simply watching performances. San Francisco also gives you plenty to do outside the festival, from neighborhoods filled with great food to waterfront walks and day trips.

This is one of those weekends where I would build in breathing room. Give yourself at least one relaxed meal and avoid scheduling an early-morning excursion immediately after a late social. Your feet will thank you.

March and April 2027: Big stages and bigger energy

Ultra Music Festival Miami

March 26–28 | Miami

The electronic festival calendar begins with Ultra Music Festival at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami.

Ultra is lineup-driven and production-heavy. Think major DJs, enormous stages, impressive visual effects and a crowd there to experience the full spectacle.

Unlike a congress, you are generally planning your days around set times rather than workshop schedules. That makes hotel location especially important. Downtown Miami provides access to Bayfront Park, restaurants and nightlife, while South Beach offers a very different atmosphere. I can help you decide which side of Miami best matches your priorities.

Coachella

April 9–11 and April 16–18 | Indio, California

Coachella remains one of the most recognizable music and arts festivals in the country. It takes place over two weekends, with the same general lineup structure across both.

The key decision is not simply whether to attend. It is which weekend and where to stay.

You can stay close to the festival grounds, choose a hotel in Palm Springs or build the weekend around a more private desert retreat. Each option changes the experience. A nearby hotel may reduce transportation time, while Palm Springs can offer a more polished resort stay with excellent restaurants and pools.

This is where early planning helps. Room inventory, ticket pricing and transportation options can change quickly once the lineup is announced.

May 2027: Las Vegas and Detroit

EDC Las Vegas

May 14–16 and May 21–23 | Las Vegas

EDC Las Vegas is expanding to two consecutive weekends in 2027:

• May 14–16
• May 21–23

The official EDC website lists both weekends at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

EDC is a full-scale production experience. There are multiple stages, art installations, performers and a festival environment that continues well into the morning. It is not a “pop in for a few hours” kind of weekend.

I would plan accommodations around your transportation tolerance. Staying on the Strip gives you access to restaurants, pools and nightlife, but the Speedway is not next door. Shuttle access, rideshare logistics and the time you want to spend getting back after the festival all matter.

Movement Detroit

May 29–31 | Detroit

Movement takes over Hart Plaza on Detroit’s riverfront during Memorial Day Weekend.

This is a great fit for travelers who love electronic music but want a more city-centered festival experience. The location makes it possible to combine music with Detroit restaurants, architecture, museums and the city’s deep techno history.

Movement’s official FAQ confirms the 2027 dates and notes that hotel options are available through its official hotel provider.

June and July 2027: Choose your summer lane

Beyond Wonderland Midwest

June 10–13 | Midwest

Beyond Wonderland Midwest brings a multi-day electronic festival experience to the middle of the country.

This is a good choice for travelers who want the big-stage atmosphere without automatically heading to Miami, Las Vegas or California. I would watch for the full lineup, venue details and hotel recommendations before locking in flights.

Beyond Wonderland at The Gorge

June 26–27 | George, Washington

The Gorge is one of the most dramatic concert settings in the United States. Beyond Wonderland at The Gorge combines electronic music with sweeping views of the Columbia River Gorge.

This is the festival for travelers who want the destination to be part of the experience. Depending on your comfort level, you may want to consider nearby lodging or camping options and plan transportation carefully. The scenery is spectacular, but this is not a simple downtown hotel weekend.

Las Vegas Super Congress

June 30–July 5 | Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Super Congress gives Latin dancers a long holiday-weekend-style opportunity to combine classes, performances and social dancing with a city that never really turns off.

For this kind of event, I would look closely at the workshop schedule before choosing a hotel. If classes and socials are spread across multiple locations, proximity and transportation become just as important as the room itself.

Miami Salsa Congress

July 21–26 | Miami

The Miami Salsa Congress runs from July 21–26 and includes workshops, pool parties, concerts, performances and late-night socials.

This is more than a dance event. It is a full Miami experience, with plenty of opportunities to build in beach time, excellent meals and a little recovery between dance sessions.

The BIG Salsa Fest

July 22–26 | San Antonio

The BIG Salsa Fest in San Antonio overlaps with the Miami Salsa Congress, running July 22–26.

That overlap is worth noting if you are choosing between the two. San Antonio offers a different kind of getaway, with a strong food scene, the River Walk and a more compact downtown experience. Miami brings the beach, pool-party atmosphere and international-city energy.

Both are excellent. They are simply different flavors of summer.

One important omission: Bonnaroo

Bonnaroo has cancelled its 2027 edition, so it is not included in this calendar.

That is a useful reminder not to assume a festival will return just because it has run for years. Always check the official event website before booking flights, hotels or festival packages.

Congress or electronic festival: Which is right for you?

Choose a congress if you want:

• Daytime classes and structured learning
• Social dancing with lots of opportunities to participate
• Performances from international artists
• A community-focused environment
• A hotel-centered experience where dancers gather all weekend

Choose an electronic festival if you want:

• A lineup-driven weekend
• Large stages and immersive production
• Multiple genres and performance areas
• A more open-ended schedule
• A destination built around music, art and spectacle
