Five hotels I’d happily plan an entire trip around
Not because they are famous. Because the setting, the welcome, and the feeling of the place make staying put a very good idea.
Some hotels are useful bases. Others quietly become the point of the trip. I like the second kind, especially when the property has a strong sense of place and the staff seem to know the difference between helpful and hovering.
The shortlist changes, but the test stays the same: would I be happy to lose an afternoon here? If the answer is yes, it is probably worth building a route around.
And if breakfast comes with a view, I am listening.
